Week 6: Reading (News in levels)

Imagen
News in levels is a page in which you can find different new to work with. The great about this page is that you can find the same new written in different levels of difficulty, so all students will be able to read and understand. This is a excellent page for teachers that need material for their reading classes, since they only need to know their students's level in order to create an interesting activity. I think that students of high school will work better with something like that, since they are older and capable of thinking critically and through this type of activities they will improve their reading skills and writing as well.  A limitation is that you can't work with the first thing you find, you need to find news that call students' attention, otherwise they won´t feel motivated to work. The following is a plan lesson made using this interesting page. Unit 4: Mass Media Context: Class of 25 students from a second year of High School in a sub...

Week 5: Lyrics Training

Lyrics Training 1) Why is this particular tool or technology relevant to language learning? What approaches to language learning or research underpin the use of this technology? Nowadays, teachers must face different kind of problems related to this contemporary era. Students do not feel motivated to participate on classes and focus their attention to their cellphones and computers, therefore, this page (Lyricstraining) is really useful in order to catch student’s attention. We just have to search for songs that are interesting to our students. It creates a close attitude toward the teaching learning process, since motivation seems to be hardest aim in the classroom. 2) How might you use it to foster language learning? Think about your target audience. First, seems to be a good idea to create a song list from which students can pick up the one they like. Then, it would increase the chance that students continued using this page on their own, encouraged by the w...

Week 4: More than Words. Vocabulary (Plickers)

Imagen
Plickers is an assessment tool created by a teacher that needed a quick and simple way to asses students . This tool allows teachers to collect data without the need to have students use devices or paper and pencil. This tool is really relevant, since students will feel motivated to participate in a different activity. As a student, I can say that is boring writing all day on my notebooks. And I remember on day a teacher made us participate in her class with plickers and was a rewarding experience.   A limitation that can be taken into consideration is that students can have many distractions through an activity, they can start playing or bothering each other and this will have a negative effect on an activity. Another limitation is related to the technological conditions, for example, weak internet connection. The following is a plan lesson that was made to use plickers: At the Zoo Objective: Students will dramatized animal actions in order to learn th...
